3 Things to Do This Thanksgiving in Chicago

The holiday season is upon us, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We know that this day is all about spending some quality time with friends and family and enjoying good food. But you can do so much more this Thanksgiving in Chicago when you live at OneEleven. From enjoying the Thanksgiving parade with your loved ones to strolling in the Christkindlmarket, there is something to enjoy for everyone.

Chicago Thanksgiving Parage

Undoubtedly, the most popular tradition in Chicago is the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade. The parade is a must-see event if you are in Chicago during Thanksgiving. The event includes gigantic balloons, decked-out horses and floats, marching bands, and various performance shows. It starts at 8:00 a.m. on State Street in downtown Chicago. Go see the parade with your friends and family for a fun-filled start to the day.

The Christkindlmarket

Experience a slice of Germany at the Christkindlmarket at the Daley Plaza, Loop. This open-air market will be functional from Nov 15 to Dec 24 this year. Shop for handcrafted things like clocks, glass ornaments, beer steins, and nutcrackers. These make excellent holiday gifts, but it’s also a fun place to wander around and browse. When you get exhausted from all the shopping and walking in the market, snack on some delicious pretzels, schnitzels, latkes, and chocolate treats. Also, remember to enjoy a mug of the famous traditional spiced hot wine, Glühwein, or some delicious hot cocoa.

Christmas Tree at Millennium Park

Another yearly tradition in Chicago, the Christmas Tree at Millennium Park is a grand sight. This season the tree will be on display from November 22 through January 6. The huge tree is decorated with twinkling lights and a bright star adorns the crown. The inauguration will happen on November 22. Even better, it is a short walk from the Christkindlmarket (Daley Plaza).

This year, The Grammy award-winning South African songwriter and singer, Jonathan Butler will perform at the lighting ceremony. There will also be performances given by Cielito Lindo and the cast of ‘Eleanor’s Very Merry Christmas Wish’.

One of the best things about living in the OneEleven apartments is the ease of access to these events. But if the cold is driving you indoors, you can still have fun and stay active at these local spin classes. Contact us today to know more about living at One Eleven and learn about our community.
