Spend A Day At The Chicago Park District

Are you looking for something to do on weekends? If so, the Chicago Park District can keep you busy for hours. Spanning more than 8,000 acres, it’s home to more than 570 parks, 50 nature areas, 31 beaches, and two world-class conservatories. The fun includes:

North Park Village Nature Center – Here you can take a scenic stroll on walking trails that meander through woodlands, wetlands, savannas, and prairies. Inside the nature center, you will find a discovery room and interactive displays.

Lincoln Park Zoo – The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the United States and admission is always free. There are 1,000 animals housed in exhibits such as Kovler Seal Pool, Regenstein African Journey, and Walter Family Arctic Tundra.

Diversey Range – Once a nine-hole golf course, this driving range offers a state-of-the-art experience. It includes a synthetic turf range, synthetic putting greens, covered heated hitting areas and an eighteen hole miniature golf course. Those who hit balls off the upper hitting deck will enjoy beautiful views of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago.

Lapidary Studios – Learn to make jewelry using metals and more. During the ten-week class, students will create five to seven one-of-a-kind pieces such as rings, necklaces, and glass beads using processes such as cutting, shaping, and forming.

Armour Square Park – Located across from U.S. Cellular Field, this square and other related properties were described as “the most notable civic achievement in any American city” by President Roosevelt. Most visitors come to this park to play sports, swim in the outdoor pool, or workout at the fitness center.
