Saturday Night Live: The Experience at the Museum of Broadcast Communications

There’s one thing that many of America’s favorite comedians have in common: Saturday Night Live. For over four decades, people have tuned in to SNL for hilarious skits, funny faces, and loads of good old belly laughs. Now you can learn more about it just around the corner from OneEleven. Take a closer look at Saturday Night Live: The Experience in the Museum of Broadcast Communications.

Saturday Night Live: The Experience

This traveling exhibit pays homage to the show’s forty-three seasons. After two years in New York City, Saturday Night Live: The Experience has moved on to Chicago. Comedic legends like Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and Eddie Murphy each got their start on the incredible comedy-sketch show; now you can learn more about their journeys. The exhibit takes up two floors of the museum. So go see the numerous artifacts on display and fantastic photo opportunities for guests.

Look Behind the Scenes

The SNL crew all adhere to a very strict schedule to keep the show running smoothly, and the exhibit mimics this structure. Begin your tour in the Monday section, where ideas are pitched and the special guest is welcomed. Tuesday brings a whole lot of writing, and actors then spend Wednesday reading through the skits out loud. See how the rest of the week is scheduled through the exhibits.

See the Props

Saturday Night Live: The Experience has dozens of instantly recognizable artifacts. Major set pieces include the basement (and couches) of those head-banging buddies, Wayne and Garth. Some notable costumes include John Belushi’s infamous killer bees, the goofy but incredibly lovable Spartan cheerleaders, and Melissa McCarthy’s Sean Spicer Easter bunny. Plenty of great photo ops are available, too. Guests can capture a pic on the Wayne’s World couches, behind a Jeopardy podium, or at the 2004 Weekend Update desk.

Saturday Night Live: The Experience is an immersive adventure sure to deliver lots of laughs. You can explore even more of your favorite places and shows at these behind-the-scenes tours.
