It served as an inspiration to renowned architects such as Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright. The National Register of Historic Places lists the Glessner House. The museum’s mission is to spark excitement in architecture and history. Take a docent-led tour on Wednesday, when admission is free.

 

Swedish American Museum

Nestled in the Andersonville neighborhood, the Swedish American Museum has welcomed visitors for more than forty years. Spanning 24,000 feet, it features two galleries. It also strives to celebrate Swedish culture, customs, and traditions. The museum’s permanent exhibit, The Dream of America: Swedish Immigration to Chicago, is found on the second floor. Visitors can follow the immigrants’ journey to the United States. Visitors can also meet characters such as Elin Hedman, who passed through Ellis Island in the early 1920s. Get free admission on the second Tuesday of every month.
