Celebrate Memorial Day In Chicago
Since its beginning, in the days of the Civil War, Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have died in service to their country. But the whole Memorial Day weekend is also a great time to take in some of the many amazing activities here in the Chicago area.

Be sure to attend the Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor the active military, veterans and those who died in service to our country. The ceremony will be held at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza at 11 a.m. The parade starts at noon, heading south on State Street from Lake St. to Van Buren.
May 27 – 28
12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Memorial Day weekend also means the start of warmer weather and street fair season in Chicago. Now in its 33rd year, the popular Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest, located in the Lakeview neighborhood, features a terrific line-up of local tribute bands, along with food, drinks, and artisans.
May 18 – 25
Get a head start on your Memorial Day weekend celebrating during Chicago Craft Beer Week. Take part in a beer cruise, a beer crawl, and other events. Or just visit some of the many venues which have rare beers, special pairings of food and beer, and other limited time offers. The event begins with Beer Under Glass, located at Garfield Park Conservatory. The Chicago event coincides with American Craft Beer Week.
Start your summer with a bang. You can see fireworks on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. And the best view is from a cruise on Lake Michigan. There are a variety of cruises available. Many offer dinner, dancing, and entertainment. You can learn about Chicago’s architecture, or enjoy a romantic evening aboard a tall ship. No matter which cruise you select, you will have spectacular views. Check the Navy Pier for a schedule of fireworks and cruises.
